AWOG Creates more than 200 Heart Pillows for Mastectomy Patients

The Impact Hub was a buzz with stuffing! Members and friends of AWOG gathered there on October 19th to prepare more than 200 pillows for the AWOG HEART Pillow Project. Our stuffing party, also sponsored by BIOAXIS, brought us together to create pillows offered to mastectomy patients in Athens public hospitals as a part of their recovery process. Kudos go out to all of the 50 some gals and guys-we had FAWCO Youth Cultural Volunteers there from 6 different countries and one of the doctor’s who recommends our pillows to his patients present to help stuff, stitch, pack and sort in the pillow preparation. Bravo to Bessie Sioutas who has overseen the program the last few years with love and diligence and to Vicky Klimi, one of AWOG’s newest members who garnered the interest and generosity BIOAXIS. Robin Hionis offered everyone her delicious cookies with an emblematic pink ribbon. And, of course to all the members and friends who have given materials, time, talent and energy with love, to this project that is all heart and full of love and positive energy. 

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. AWOG members have been sewing and delivering the AWOG HEART PILLOWS since 2007 and continue to do so. AWOG members have sewn more than 10,000 pillows. These pillows are made with love by our members and  delivered  thanks to the generosity of BIOAXIS to hospitals in Attiki. AWOG HEART PILLOWS have been prepared exclusively by our members who want to continue to do the “hands on” work and we have “stuff it” parties regularly and are capably handling the hospitals in both the north and south of Attiki. who call us directly when they want deliveries. This is a year long project for AWOG, it isn’t promoted or worked on only during October. The AWOG HEART PILLOW is all cotton, made to the specifications which were brought to us back in 2007 and have a wonderful, soft filling. They are colorful and beautiful to look at and feedback from the many patients is heartwarming to our members who work so hard making them. They are certain to bring cheer as well as relieve pain. Each heart pillow is delivered in a plastic bag with a card attached from AWOG.
